What you will need to bring +
Aside from the things you pack for any camping adventure, here is a list of items you’ll need or want while you’re here:
• 3Mile Camp and Swag Camps
15L containers are available for purchase. Best to fill up your water containers before you travel.
- Cooking facility
Currently there are no camp kitchens on site, most sites at 3Mile Camp have a basic fireplace if you are happy to cook on the coals. You will need to bring with you everything you need to prepare your food.
- Extra Fridge/Freezer
You can bring a fridge or freezer and plug it into the power system set up at the 3Mile Camp shop. However, please be aware that limited power points are available due to the power load on the generator and there is a $10 per day charge. If you need to bring a fridge or freezer, it is advisable to contact us to ensure a power point is available. Alternatively, you may prefer to be self-sufficient and bring your own solar panel or ‘silent running’ generator so as not to disturb your neighbours.
Shade and shelter are limited at 3Mile Camp. Some sites provide more shade/shelter/space than others so please discuss your needs when booking. You will be living close to nature! Depending on your need for comfort and privacy (and your bush living skills) you may want to consider bringing: Swag, folding/inflatable campbed, fly screened structure for cooking/sleeping, shade cloth (with poles), gazebo for shade, ant powder, fly spray, surface spray sky, tent, vehicle you can sleep/change in for privacy.
• Gnaraloo Homestead Accommodation
For the Bedroom *:
- Pillows and pillow cases
- Bed linen (sheets for single beds only - except for New Cabins which contain 1 queen and 2 single beds)
- Blankets, doonas/duvet or sleeping bag
*Minimum stock of these items…

- Gnaraloo Homestead
Please do not bring +
Please do not bring element appliances.
Power is available in all properties (and some Swag Camps by arrangement) from 8:00AM to 11:00PM. Any electrical appliance that operates with an element is not suitable for our generator. These include: electric kettles, toasters, fryers and frypans, hair dryers, electric tea urns, element grills, coffee makers, ice machines, bread makers, etc. If you are unsure whether your appliances will be suitable, please do not hesitate to ask us. We provide kettles and toasters suitable for use on the gas cookers and ask that you work with us to keep our generator healthy so that we can continue to provide suitable, stable power for all our fridges, freezers and Reverse Osmosis machine that makes our freshwater!
No firearms are to be brought onto or used on Gnaraloo. This includes Rifles, Pistols, Bows or Cross Bows. If you are travelling with firearms please declare them to the site Managers on your arrival to avoid prosecution.
Illegal camping +
Camping is only permitted at 3Mile Camp or Gnaraloo Homestead. Illegal camping anywhere else on Gnaraloo will not be tolerated and persons found camping will be subject to fine of $400 per person. Additional penalties → link to 2.3 Guest information # Illegal camping will also apply.
We are starting work to reduce the environmental impact of the waste and rubbish left by the increasing number of visitors to Gnaraloo, see our Gnaraloo Reduce Reuse Recycle Program → link to 5.3 Gnaraloo Reduce Reuse Recycle Program.
We ask that you consider what you bring with you and how much of it will be left behind for disposal when you go home. Simple steps such as removing excess packaging from food, drink and other items and disposing of it elsewhere or bringing one larger container (rather than several smaller ones) can all help as well as using aluminum cans instead of glass containers.
Unless they are in good working order and can be used by others, do not bring larger items with the intention of leaving them behind, but take them home with you. Gnaraloo does not have a facility to dispose of hard rubbish such as broken surfboards, damaged tents, deckchairs, etc. Please plan to take this rubbish with you when you leave and drop it in a town rubbish facility on your way home. A fine → link to 2.3 Guest information # Rubbish fines will apply for each item of hard rubbish left behind.
Well behaved dogs are permitted at Gnaraloo. Please notify us when booking your accommodation and register the dog onsite.
Dogs must be on a lead at all times and secured at night. They must be kept under control. Campers, wildlife or stock being harassed by your dog will result in immediate eviction.
Dog litter must be picked up immediately.
Please note: 1080 poison baits are used on Gnaraloo other than in the accommodation areas - these baits are fatal to dogs!
Please read our Dog Regulations → link to 2.3 Guest information # Dog Regulations.
Only silent unit generators are permitted.
Solar panels are the preferred means for powering your camp site but if you must have a generator then only the new ‘Silent’ type of Generators are allowed to be used in consideration of fellow campers at 3Mile Camp and can be used between 7am and 10pm. Please respect other campers and ensure that the noise does not disturb them.
You are welcome to bring your boat. Please let us know so that we can help you to plan parking. Kindly ask before or on arrival for information about fuel supplies, launching areas and marine sanctuary zones → link to 2.3 Fishing in marine sanctuary zones.
Bikes, Quads +
Motorbikes and quad bikes ridden with care and respect are welcome on the open tracks of Gnaraloo. However, you are not permitted to ride them anywhere you could not take a car (Please ask for a mud map). Anyone found doing so will have their bike impounded and there will be a charge to reclaim it at the end of your stay. NO DRIVING ON THE BEACH, DUNES or any “Station Use Only” track. If you are bringing a bike or quad to use here, please also bring a helmet as our main track is public road and subject to usual road laws.
Please read our policy on dune and beach driving → link to 2.3 Guest information # Dune and beach driving.
Jet skis +
Jet skis must be ridden with care and in consideration for the reef and other water users. In swimming areas such as the 3Mile Lagoon and Gnaraloo Bay, jet skis must slow right down and show some respect. Towing rules are the same as elsewhere - no towing if anyone in the line up is paddling.
Internet access and mobile phones +
There is a wireless network available at the Homestead and at 3Mile Camp. Vouchers are available for purchase and give you 1 hour internet use, valid for 7 days from first login, so you can log in and out at your convenience. Hours of use are approxiamtely from 8am to 8pm. If you bring your own laptop, free power is provided for you to plug into.
Mobile reception is very unpredictable and not always available. There are outgoing public phones at both the Homestead and 3Mile Camp. Incoming emergency messages ONLY will be passed on from the Homestead or 3Mile Camp offices.
Vehicle or trailer damage on the journey +
If at all possible, you should return to Carnarvon to have repair work done before you arrive at Gnaraloo.
If this is not possible, please see the Gnaraloo Homestead reception. We can sometimes arrange for essential repair work to be done by our mechanic (subject to availability). This will be charged at $150 per hour (minimum half hour charge) plus materials.
Due to several cases of lost tools and broken equipment - you will no longer be allowed to use our workshop to effect your own repairs or borrow tools.
Caravan storage (off season) +
Storage at 3Mile Camp for a year costs $150. Please ask at the 3Mile Camp shop or contact us for more details.
Medical emergencies +
Please report any incidents to 3Mile Camp or the Homestead offices.
We have telephone access to the Royal Flying Doctor Service who will connect us with one of their doctors for consultation. Should an ambulance be required, it can be arranged by our staff. In some instances, you may be required to drive the patient to Carnarvon for medical assistance.
We also request that anyone with medical training (doctors, nurses etc) register with us upon arrival. This information will be retained by Gnaraloo staff for onsite emergencies only.
If you require medication for an ongoing condition (however infrequently you need it), please ensure you bring sufficient supplies with you. We also recommend that you bring your own first aid kit, and have an awareness of first aid/lifesaving procedures, particularly if you are travelling with children.
