A word of thanks here to all our Wwoofers – without whom we could not have got as far as we have.
Paul and Paul (yes, it’s very confusing) have being getting new roofs and infrastructure in for some more cabanas (watch this space to book as soon as they’re done). Feral is our new mechanic – making all the machines work once more (an unenviable task).
Our workers (aided by our committed bunch of WWOOFers) have been hard at it defining and protecting the vegetation around the 3 mile site. We have been rewarded for our efforts by so much rain that Gnaraloo is looking beautiful and green again. The wild flowers are staring to come out, and the sheep are the fattest and happiest we’ve ever seen them. We have secured funding for a new bore, so we should soon have some better quality water in the near future – lots of it, hot and at pressure.
If you are coming to Gnaraloo fishing this year then expect to meet Treve (and his lovely little healer pup, Chloe) – our now resident expert. He is doing some survey work for fisheries research – so please help him out if you see him at the fish gutting table and do feel free to pick his brains.
Other improvements in progress include a plan to get our airstrip extended to make it more suitable for RFDS planes and an application for a liquor license so that we can keep you guys topped up with cold beer (I can hear the cheers from here !).
The 3 milers are doing a great job of contributing to our new push to separate their rubbish so that we can start to recycle where possible, and we hope that the same system will soon be in place at the homestead (where we are already composting the fish carcasses in the hope they will bring us a bumper crop of tomatoes next year).
Aaron and Hannah have been helping out at both sites and are progressing on the 3 mile unisex toilet block – it should be all tiled and painted very soon and ready to go… |
