We are always interested to hear from workers with a good attitude, and are particularly looking for those with experience and skills in the following areas:
Building (including electricians, plumbers, carpenters, decorators, tilers etc) and unskilled labourers.
Maintenance and operations staff (including the above, cleaners, reception/shop workers)
We are currently looking to appoint a full time (seasonal) cook/cleaner position for the main house.
At certain times of year, we need station hands for stock work, front of house staff to help assist tourists, and are always interested to hear from those with specialized knowledge in areas such as interior design, architecture/landscape architecture renewable energy and water systems, horticulture, waste management, IT, accounting, mechanics and land/pastoral management. Work Deals
Gnaraloo prefers workers who can stay for over a week (if you are a good worker - the longer the better!)
According to seasonal activities, your skills and abilities, there are a variety of work options available:
The part-timer/ WWOOFing
Work with us for 4 to 5 hours per day (7 day week) and receive 3 meals a day and a place to lay your head. Have plenty of spare time to explore the area (you can windsurf, surf, fish, walk, swim, snorkel, dive, observe and photograph nature). You may be asked to work full days on a day on/day off basis.
The Worker
Work full time with us (6 day week) and receive your food, board and a wage (dependant on your skills and aptitude). Be fully involved in the everyday running and development of this unique Station, get hands on experience in a variety of tasks. You will have the opportunity to develop new skills under expert guidance. You may be asked to work on a part time basis (see above) while we assess your skills, before being offered full time work.
You will need to bring with you:
- A desire to contribute to the conservation and development of Gnaraloo
- A ‘have a go' attitude to a variety of tasks, a sense of humour and willingness to learn
- Work clothes (pair of comfortable boots and a hat)
- we also recommend a pair of gloves, a pair of long trousers and a long sleeved shirt.
- Any snack food, alcohol, cigarettes and other luxury items that you will need for your first week (these items are not included in the work deals but can be ordered at your expense on the weekly town shopping runs)
- Any medical supplies and/or toiletries that you will need
Please do not bring with you:
- Large amounts of dirty washing (we have clothes washing facilities here, but water is precious and must be used sparingly)
- Animals (unless by prior arrangement)
- A 'holiday' attitude - you will be expected to work hard (and use your brain) during work hours - when work is finished you can relax and enjoy the area.
What to expect !
Gnaraloo is a remote station and you will find life quite different from that in ‘civilisation'.
Work-There will always be repetitive/unpleasant jobs on a station that no-one wants to do. However, we will do our best to ensure that everyone gets a variety of work. Please talk to our staff on arrival if you have skills you think may be relevant.
Accomodation -The accommodation for workers will vary according to what is available. It may include anything from tourist accommodation to a tent or swag ! Please ask for more details on the current situation when you call.
Water - Limited supplies of desalinated freshwater for drinking and cooking are available. All properties are supplied by bore water, which, whilst safe for washing, causes some discolouration and odour in toilets.
Power - No power onsite from 11pm to 7am.
Wildlife - Gnaraloo is a remote station with abundant wildlife. At certain times of year you may experience a high incidence of mice, other small animals and insects. As there is little we can do about this, please be prepared to be living close to nature! Keep foodstuffs in fridges or sealable containers.
Food-The food provided is basic but tasty. When numbers are low all workers may be expected to contibute to a cooking rota by taking turns to prepare meals. You WILL be expected to clear up after yourself and contribute to a tidy household.
Vegetarians and those with special dietary needs can be catered for to a limited degree (you may be required to prepare your own food from our basic supplies)
