When is the best time of year to visit Gnaraloo? PDF Print E-mail

Depends what you are coming to Gnaraloo for !

Temperatures:

The hottest months on Gnaraloo are Jan - Mar so if you are looking for bargain rates and relative solitude, this is the best time to visit - but be prepared for 30C+ temperatures that can reach the high 40's on some days, plus bring a headnet for flies! However these months also offer good water visibility (especially early in the mornings) and fantastic sunsets.

April-May temperatures are 26-32C

Many more visitors come during the winter months (June to September) when mean maximum temperatures range from 20 to 25C.

October-December temperatures are 26-32C.

Ocean Conditions:

Traditionally Gnaraloo is visited by wave and kite sailors from Sept to January, Surfers from May to Sept, and Fishermen from March to October as these periods are likely to produce the best conditions for each respective sport. However, we have had sailors here until as late as March, and Fishermen arriving as early as February (plus a few who will try their luck beach fishing all year round and are rarely dissapointed!). As Gnaraloo has access to a range of waves, good surf conditions can be found at most times of year with a little commitment and patience !

Flora and Fauna:

All year round you can see kangaroos, emus, bungarras, bustards and wedgetail eagles on Gnaraloo, plus the delights of the Ningaloo Reef environment including dolphins and a wide variety of fish and marine animals.

Fish feeding frenzys are most likely to be seen in May and June just after the coral spawning in March or April.

From Jun to Nov there is a good chance of seeing humpback or southern right whales as they pass on their annual migration.

Your best chance of seeing Whale Sharks is April to June and Manta Rays June to August.

Gnaraloo has a breeding population of Green and Loggerhead Turtles and you may witness them nesting and nests hatching between October and February (one of the reasons we work so hard to keep vehicles off our beaches !). Please enure you have read the relevant information on turtle interaction so that you do not disturb them or the nests, or discourage them from nesting.

For plant enthusiasts (or just those who enjoy a beautiful view) Gnaraloo's wildflowers are blooming from July to September, so come then to witness carpets of many coloured flowers, especially if Gnaraloo has had some rain over the winter.
