3 mile camp is in a remote location, plan carefully for your trip so you can enjoy the comforts of the bush and leave it as you found it. What do you need to bring? EVERYTHING !!
Water: 15l containers of water are sold at the shop, but no other freshwater is supplied at the camp. Best to fill up your water containers in Carnarvon before you travel. The average adult drinks 2 to 3 litres of water per day. Please plan for your whole group.
Food: The shop sells milk, bread, ice, basic supplies and a few munchies at roadhouse prices. If you are on a budget it is best to bring all the food you will need for your stay. Where possible, please remove food items from extraneous packaging in Carnarvon, and dispose of there (to reduce the amount of rubbish to be dealt with on site). You can bring meat etc to be frozen in the shop freezers (small charge applies) or rent a powerpoint at the shop (limited numbers) to plug in your own freezer.
And, of course, you can always fish for your dinner !!
New for 2008 - 3 Mile Camp now has a license to sell alcohol, so if you're running low on beer (or all your beer is warm - Yuk !) you can pop up to the shop for a coldy ! We also carry a small selection of wine and premixed spirits. Please be aware we can only sell alcohol during shop hours, and that it is not available on Xmas day or Good Friday.
Cooking facilities: Currently there are no camp kitchens on site, most sites have a basic fireplace if you are happy to cook on the coals. You will need to bring with you everything you need to prepare your food.
Wood: You are welcome to bring your own firewood, This must be chopped, bagged or manufactured wood, but as firewood collection is forbidden on Gnaraloo and Quobba Stations we ask that you do not bring snakewood . Any wood in the form of tree's or branches is forbidden to be burnt on Gnaraloo and will be confiscated. We sell dry jarrah at the shop for $15 per bag and also stock heatbeads.
Shelter: Shade and shelter are limited in the camp. Some sites provide more shade/shelter/space than others so please discuss your needs when booking. You will be living close to nature ! Depending on your need for comfort and privacy (and your bush living skills) you may want to consider bringing:
Swag, folding/inflatable campbed.
Fly screened structure for cooking/sleeping.
Shade cloth (with poles), gazebo for shade.
Ant powder, fly spray, surface spray
Esky, portable fridge/freezer, gas burner, Generator (must be quiet ones only)
Tent, or a vehicle you can sleep/change in for privacy.
A light for your camp and a torch for the late night trips to the toilet.
Survival/medical help: We hold an RFDS box onsite for emergency medical care, please contact the shop. However, we recommend that you carry a first aid kit and any other medication that you need, particularly if you are travelling with children. Please be aware that the nearest medical help is in Carnarvon (approx 2hrs drive)- if you are injured or ill it will be your own responsibility to return there for treatment.
Toys: There is no equipment held on site. You will need to bring your own surfboards (we do sell wax and spare leg ropes), sailboards (we sell a limited selection of spares), kiting equipment, wetsuit, reef shoes/booties, snorkel gear, flippers, mountain bikes, speargun, rods and reels (we do sell bait, lures, line, sinkers and floats), boats, jet skis, and anything else you wish to try out at Gnaraloo. With larger items, please be aware that parking is limited and you will need to plan to fit them on your site, or ask at the shop to park them elsewhere.
NB: Motorbikes and quad bikes ridden with care and respect are welcome on the open tracks of Gnaraloo, however you are not permitted to ride them anywhere you could not take a car (please ask for a mud map) - anyone found doing so will have their bike impounded and there will be a charge to reclaim it at the end of your stay. NO RIDING ON THE BEACH, DUNES or any station use only track. If you are bringing a bike or quad to use here, please also bring a helmet as our main track is public road and subject to usual road laws.
Please do not bring:
Snakewood, or unchopped/bagged deadwood (see section on wood above) - as of the 2008 season these rules will be tightened and anyone who does not declare wood on arrival will have it confiscated.
Rubbish - please consider how much stuff you bring to camp that you are intending to dispose of here. Although we are working towards a recycling strategy for cans and glass, currently all rubbish left on Gnaraloo stays here, and impacts on the beautiful natural environment that we all enjoy. Please try to remove extraneous packaging from food and other equipment that you bring, and dispose of it elsewhere. Please also plan to take with you any large items of rubbish (broken surfboards, rigs, deckchairs, tents, etc) when you leave and dispose of them at a suitable location in one of the towns on your way home.
Guns - just don't bring them
