Fishing at Gnaraloo - Ningaloo Reef

Gnaraloo is a paradise for people who love to fish. Whether you choose to use live bait or lures, rods or balloons, you’re sure to catch a variety of great fish.

Be aware of the sanctuary zones that are around our shores at Turtles, 3Mile, Gnaraloo Bay and Cape Farquhar. Fisheries officers patrol the area; they do not accept ignorance as a defence and will hand out fines.

Offshore

Get in your boat off the coast of Gnaraloo and you won’t be disappointed. Outside the sanctuary zones are great catches of Spangles, Rock Cod, Coronation Trout, Ranking, Pearl Pearch, Yellow-fin Tuna and Pink Snapper - to name a few.

You don’t need a motorboat to get out for a good catch; a kayak will do just as well.

Getting started
There is a safe area for beach launching at Gnaraloo Bay → link to 4.1 Attractions # Gnaraloo Bay. It’s best to keep your vehicle usage on the beach to the minimum required getting your boat in and out of the water. This practice is respectful to other fishers and it minimizes the impact on the beach.
Once your in the water, let your intuition guide you! Take your boat out anywhere past the sanctuary zones - people fishing here have found hotspots all along the coast.
Safety reminders

- Check the tides before you go and be especially cautious on the beach at low tide.

- Reduce your tyre pressure for an easier ride to the Bay.

- Ensure you have enough fuel to get you back (Please note: it is recommended that you bring ample fuel supply trip to sustain your trip. Should you require more, both Diesel and ULP are available for sale at the Homestead - diesel in any amounts and ULP in 10 liter amounts. If you intend to use a lot then it is possible to purchase a 200 liter drum of ULP; however, you must arrange this with your booking and payment in advance is necessary).

You can also try your hand at ballooning - there’s a great spot at the Monuments → link to 4.1 Attractions # Monument Cliffs when Easterly winds are at their best.
